Old engine and gear oils are nasty. Over time and with use they will have broken down which not only compromises their effectiveness but also introduces carcinogen into the mix. For us hobby mechanics this is not as much as a danger as for professionals but it is only common sense to protect ourselves against the nasties in old oils not to mention help keeping our hands clean. Difflock is now able to offer disposable gloves in 3 different types according to need including a very special double thickness ‘Super Tough’ glove that last many times longer than the others even when working with petrol.
What glove is what?
There are 4 main types of glove, Latex, vinyl, nitrile and polythene and each has its benefits. All come in packs of 100 and are ambidextrous.
Latex
- Cheapest and most basic glove.
- Gives a good close fit and good grip and sensitivity for small parts
- A good single use glove although generally very thin and can be prone to splitting.
- Not for use with petrol or diesel
- Made from natural rubber so not for those with latex allergies
- Pre-powdered
Vinyl
- Also cheap and basic but slightly tougher than Latex
- No latex allergy problems
- Less stretch than latex so has reduced fit, sensitivity etc
- Better with petrol or diesel
- Pre-powdered
Nitrile
- Feels like latex but no allergy problems
- Good stretch, fit and sensitivity
- Available as ‘Super tough’
- Non-powdered so less chance of skin irritation
- Fine for use with fuel
Polythene
- Like the ones you get at the petrol station
