Puncturesafe is a puncture prevention system which seals tread punctures of up to 6mm where there is little or no cord damage. It will not seal large punctures or sidewall damage but helps give a slower controlled deflation which will allow to time to pull over safely. Unlike 'get you home' repair aerosols it does not use chemical 'melting' to temporarily seal a hole to give you limited speed and distance use of a damaged and possibly unsafe tyre. Puncturesafe makes a permanent (for the life of the tyre) repair. Several Police forces, Tarmac, Royal Mail and others have seen puncture rates reduced by 90%!

Your local tyre fitter hates the aerosols because of the noxious fumes and the mess they leave behind but Puncturesafe simply washes out.

If that's not enough, Puncturesafe also extends tyre life by reducing the carcass temperature and passing the heat into the wheel which naturally acts as a heatsink and helps extend tyre life by between 20% (cars) and 40% (motorbikes). On a quality 4x4 tyre this is a saving of more than £35 for an outlay of about £20! For normal saloon tyres the saving is about £25 for a £11 outlay.

This is not simply marketing hype. We have used this product for years on motorbikes and when changing the rear tyre, after 6,000 miles (compared with only 4,500 normally) of heavy use there are often a handful of previously unseen nails or thorns poking through to the inside!

How much do you need?

Every tyre needs a slightly different amount according to rims size, width and profile. Puncturesafe is not suitable for tyres of lower than 45 profile as the internal ribs prevent the fluid from spreading but any other tyre from a bicycle to a dumper truck will benefit from a treatment.

Using the application guide, find your tyre size and number of units required. Multiply this number by the number of tyres to be treated (normally 2 for bikes and 4 for cars) and choose which kit suits you best. For example, a Defender TD5 has BFG 235/85 R16 tyres that take 18.5 units each so you will need 2 x car DIY kits which is enough to treat all 5 tyres. Each bottle is sold as holding 25 units although most have an extra 10%. You could risk getting 1 x Car and 1 x motorbike kits (3 bottles) and be careful about treating! Average cost per tyre for a 4x4 is £18.75

It’s critical not to over-treat Motorbikes front tyres as they are very sensitive to balancing issues but other tyres it’s normal to over-treat by about 10%. Each DIY kit comes with valve core removal tool/valve cap, bike application list, tubes and instructions.

How do I treat my tyres?

Easy peasy! With the DIY kit you use the valve tool to remove the core (tool included) and allow the tyre to deflate. Cut the tip of the bottle applicator and push the tube over the top of the bottle. Push the other end over the valve and squeeze. Each bottle has a volume guide on the side. Once you put in the required amount simply replace the valve (I always give a blast of air to clear the valve before refitting the core) and re-inflate your tyre.

Once you’ve driven a few miles the Puncturesafe will be spread evenly and the job is done. You don’t have to drive away immediately as it can sit happily at the bottom of the tyre until you next go a for a drive.
