NB: ZF 4HP22 Autoboxes - Discovery's are also fitted with automatic gearboxes (either factory original or conversions). Typically the factory original ZF 4HP22 4 speed Autobox is used. ZF 4 speed Automatic box fitted to these vehicles is more than happy with high quality plain mineral ATF fluids such as Difflock's Auto Transmission Fluid ATF Type DIII . The latest DIII grade is the one to use since it's formulation is better matched to the latest generation of autoboxes with smaller fluid orifices and electronic controls. Because the Torque converter stays full, you can only drain around half the fluid out during servicing so any refill will be diluted by around 50% of the existing old fluid unless flushed several times. Evolution One can also be used in these boxes and will give better lubrication and lower transmission temperature but it's expense isn't justified unless the box is to be worked extremely hard in hotter climes.Drain and refil capacity of the ZF 4 speed is around 5 Litres. Full capacity inc Torque Converter is around 9-10 Litres.
