This Classic Multigrade 80w90 Hypo Gear Oil is manufactured using the very highest quality, virgin mineral oils and special EP additives and provides excellent protection for all heavily loaded axle, gearbox, transfer box and steering box applications which require very demanding GL-5 performance.

This is a Multigrade gear oil (in the same way that modern engine oils are multigrade). This means that it is far superior at maintaining optimum lubrication, protection and performance over a wider temperature range than the EP90 or EP80 monograde oil it replaces.

The Multigrade rating of this 80W90 means that at running temperature, the oil will have the same lubricating and protecting characteristics of a heavy duty EP90 gear oil.

At low temperatures however, this Multigrade 80W90 takes on the characteristics of an EP80 gear oil and so will not thicken excessively (as would a Monograde EP90) and will continue to flow and lubricate, as well as reducing starter motor strain during those sub zero winter mornings when battery power is at its lowest. Then, after start up when the oil warms in use, it reverts back to behaving as EP90.

In fact the \'W\' in the 80W90 specification specifically refers to its excellent suitability for winter use. Using this Multigrade EP80W90 gives the best of both worlds since it stays as close as possible to the optimum intended viscosity from very low temperatures (where it behaves as an SAE 80 grade) through to higher ones (where it behaves as an SAE 90 grade).

NOTE: GL5 lubricants are not recommended for older vehicles with bronze or copper transmission components. For these you will need a GL4 specification.
